Instant Pot Cheesy Chicken and Rice is a delicious family-friendly meal. This delicious, creamy, and flavorful cheesy chicken dinner with rice comes together in about 30 minutes!
I love that everything is in one pan for easy clean-up! This was one of our very first Instant Pot recipes. It has been on the favorite family dinner rotation ever since. I like the simplicity of this one-pot meal loaded with cheesy chicken and rice.
Instant Pot Cheesy Chicken and Rice is a go-to weeknight dinner for my family. It’s incredibly easy, with simple ingredients. It’s a delicious “dump and go” recipe to add to your dinner rotation!

- boneless chicken breasts
- chicken broth
- jasmine rice
- sharp cheddar cheese
- garlic powder
- condensed chicken soup
TIPS AND ADD-INS:
Some people prefer to use freshly grated cheese. This recipe is more for a simple and easy way to go, but the choice is up to what you like. Using freshly grated cheese will give it a bit better texture, but I usually just take the quicker approach.
Add in veggies such as diced carrots or frozen peas/carrots. If you add carrots, I would add them before pressure cooking. If using frozen peas, add in after pressure cooking with the cheese. This will help the peas not to become mushy.
If you want to give this meal a kick, just add some hot sauce.
How to make Cheesy Chicken & Rice:
- Place chicken in the Instant Pot. You may cut chicken into strips if you desire.
- Add rice on top of the chicken.
- Pour the broth and sprinkle in the garlic powder.
4. Pressure cook for 10 minutes and allow a 15 minute NPR (natural pressure release).
5. Remove the chicken and shred.
6. Add shredded chicken back in with the sharp cheddar cheese and condensed soup.
7. Stir by fluffing, put in bowls and enjoy!

Instant Pot Cheesy Chicken and Rice is a meal all in one.
Ingredients
- 2 boneless chicken breasts
- 2 c long grain white rice (jasmine)
- 2 1/2 c broth
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 can condensed chicken soup
- 1 c shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Place chicken and rice in the pot. You may cut it into strips if you desire.
- Pour with broth and sprinkle in the garlic powder.
- Place lid on and seal, pressure cook for 10 minutes cooking on high pressure.
- Allow 15 minute NPR (natural pressure release).
- Remove the chicken and shred.
- Add shredded chicken back in with the sharp cheddar cheese and condensed soup.
- Stir by fluffing, put in bowls and enjoy!
