Chicken and Dumplings are a hearty, old-fashioned dinner that the whole family will love. Made easy with this pressure cooker recipe.
Comfort food doesn’t mean you need to spend hours in the kitchen. With little ones, I don’t have time for that. This is yummy, simple and so tasty!!
We use canned biscuits, but if you want to make homemade dumplings, you are welcome. I also I highly recommend Kerrygold butter, it is rich and makes everything taste so much better.
The chicken can be thrown in frozen or thawed and there are no time adjustments between them.
Chicken & Dumplings Ingredients:
boneless chicken breasts
chicken broth
canned biscuits
DUMPLING SAUCE:
butter
Flour
salt
milk
sugar
How to make Chicken & Dumplings:
First, cut each chicken breast into strips and place pieces in insert pot of Instant Pot. Add 2 cups of chicken broth. Pressure cook oh high for 9 minutes with 6 minutes NPR.
While the chicken is cooking:
Next, prepare the dumpling sauce by placing butter in a medium saucepan and melt. Add salt and flour. Stir until thick. Mix sugar with milk and add to flour mixture a little at a time and stir constantly until thick and smooth. Remove from heat and let rest.
Once pressure has released and valve has dropped:
Carefully remove lid. Remove chicken to a plate and shred with shredding claws or two forks.
Time to sauté:
Turn on the Sauté function to simmer the broth and dumplings. Using biscuit dough, split in two pieces like you are opening a biscuit and place inside the broth. Simmer until dumplings are cooked and broth has begun to thicken.
Almost ready:
Lastly, once dumplings are complete, remove from the Instant Pot and pour into a bowl. Add in the dumpling sauce and shredded chicken and mix gently. Add salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy!
How do I shred the chicken?
I use meat claws, but you could also use 2 forks or a mixer. Does anyone else prefer shredded chicken, it just seems to taste so much better.

Ingredients
- 2 boneless chicken breasts
- * 4 cups chicken broth (divided)
- * 4 (7.5 oz) canned biscuits
- * salt & pepper to taste
- DUMPLING SAUCE:
- * 3 Tbsp. butter
- * 4 tsp. Flour
- * 1/4 tsp salt
- * 1 cup milk
- * 1/2 tsp sugar
Instructions
1. Cut each chicken breast into strips or use chicken tenders and place in your Instant Pot.
2. Add 2 cups of chicken broth. Pressure cook for 9 minutes with a 6 minute NPR (natural pressure release).
3. While chicken is cooking, prepare the dumpling sauce by placing butter in a medium saucepan and melt. Add salt and flour. Stir until thick. Mix sugar with milk and add to flour mixture a little at a time and stir constantly until thick and smooth.
4. Once complete, sit to the side on your stovetop.
5. Once the chicken is complete, remove chicken to a plate and shred with shredding claws or two forks.
6. Turn on the Sauté function on your pressure cooker to simmer the broth. Using biscuit dough, split in two pieces like you are opening a biscuit and place inside the broth carefully. Toss with a wooden spoon until dumplings are cooked and broth has begun to thicken. Add remaining 2 cups of broth a little at a time until dumplings are cooked.
8. Once dumplings are complete, remove from the Instant Pot and pour into a bowl. Add in the dumpling sauce from your stovetop and shredded chicken then mix gently.
9. Add salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy!
