Instant Pot garlic brown butter chicken drumsticks gives you unbelievable flavor and juiciness with savory brown butter.
It is a great main dish to make when you need an unplanned, quick and easy chicken dinner.
It’s so simple and the chicken is incredibly juicy and flavorful. They are sweet and savory and perfect served with mashed potatoes, rice or pasta. Then you can drizzle the sauce over everything on your plate if you like.
Most people love chicken drumsticks, but you could also use chicken thighs for the same effect. To help bring all the flavor to the table, it’s important to sauté the chicken in the butter and seasonings before pressure cooking. It gives you that wonderful caramelized flavor that is so delicious.
What You Will Need
You will just need a handful of ingredients plus salt and pepper. These are most likely pantry staples for most, and just grab some chicken drumsticks at the store.
- Chicken Drumsticks – I use drumsticks because I have three kids and it makes it more fun. You could easily use things or if you prefer breasts, pressure cook 15 minutes instead of 10 minutes with a 10 minute natural pressure release. I would thaw first if frozen so you can get that flavor soaked in good.
- Butter – I use Kerrygold because it is such a rich and delicious butter, it will make anything taste delicious.
- Garlic powder and Minced garlic – an essential that goes good in every dish, just kidding… but it is so good in this one.
- Italian Seasoning – a great flavor addition to this recipe.
- Chicken broth – I think it helps bring all the flavors together wonderfully.
How to make it come together
- Season chicken drumsticks on both sides with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt & pepper.
- Press Sauté on the Instant Pot and place your butter inside and let melt and brown for 5 minutes.
- When butter is browned, add chicken and cook about 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Remove chicken and press cancel.
- Deglaze the Instant pot by scraping the bottom. Add in your minced garlic, broth and chicken legs.
- Pressure cook for 10 minutes with a 5-minute natural pressure release.
- Once complete, remove and drizzle with sauce from the Instant Pot.
Storing Tips
It is important to store chicken in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in microwave or oven until heated through.
You can also freeze the chicken for up to 3 months in a freezer bag or storage container.

When browning chicken, make sure there is enough butter and move them gently with tongs so you are not burning them.
I recommend serving with mashed potatoes, rice or pasta of choice.
