Instant Pot Lazy Lasagna is so much easier and faster and just as delicious as the oven version.
Lazy Lasagna is comforting and delicious with just a handful of ingredients. Our family loves traditional lasagna, but on busy nights when we need a faster version, lazy lasagna to the rescue! It has the same delicious flavors. Bow tie pasta is usually what we use, but you can also use mini lasagna noodles. How fun are these?!
This lazy lasagna is a reader favorite, and for good reason! With only 4 minutes under pressure, you get all the same comfort flavors, ingredients and textures of traditional lasagna, but this is so much easier.
I find myself making this version of lasagna way more often than the traditional oven version. It is so much easier and it tastes nearly the exact same. You could also add some parsley flakes on top for added seasonings. Layers of noodles and cheese with your favorite sauce… how can you go wrong?
Can I substitute my favorites?
- You can use gluten free noodles, modify the pressure time by looking at the package and setting the pressure time to half the cook time suggested.
- If you prefer a richer flavor, change out the water for chicken or beef broth.
- For a rich lazy lasagna, you can add cream cheese after pressure cooking.
- If you prefer cottage cheese over Ricotta, that is a great substitute.
What is your favorite spaghetti sauce? We have a few favorites! We really enjoy Rao’s, but a budget friendly version would be Ragu or Prego. I rotate and do not always buy the same sauce. When I shop at Sam’s, I always grab the 2 pack of Rao’s. Did you know that Amazon has their own spaghetti sauce and you can get a 6 pack for about $10. A great way to stock up this pantry item!
Can I make Crockpot Lazy Lasagna?
This one pot meal is on our menu at least once or twice a month. You could easily make this dish in the slow cooker or on the stove top. You really achieve the same results faster with a pressure cooker. It’s basically the same thing as regular lasagna, only you don’t have the layers.
It’s saucy and cheesy combined with layers of beef and pasta. I like the fact that you will not have any crunchy pasta bites that you may sometimes get when cooking in the oven. Your family will think you spent hours, when in reality it was minutes! Win win!!
How to make it in the Crockpot:
If making the crockpot version, in a skillet, brown the beef and drain. Add in the marinara sauce and stir to combine. Add enough sauce to cover the bottom of the slow cooker. Into your slow cooker evenly layer in the following order (take care to make sure the layers are as flat as possible): Bowtie pasta to fit the shape of your slow cooker (a little overlap is totally fine here). Spoon a third of the meat sauce. Add a third of the ricotta in small spoonful’s along with a third of the mozzarella.
Cook on low heat for 5-6 hours or on high heat for 3-4 hours. If you want the slices to come out clean, as with any lasagna you would have to wait 15-20 minutes for it to cool a bit. Remove the insert from your slow cooker and place on a heat-safe surface.
Ingredients needed to make Lazy Lasagna: ground beef, spaghetti sauce, bow tie pasta or mini lasagna noodles, shredded mozzarella, ricotta cheese or cottage cheese.
How to make Lazy Lasagna in the Instant Pot:
Press cancel and then add in the sauce and mix to combine. Add the noodles on top of the meat and sauce mixture. Next, add the water on top of the noodles. Do NOT mix. Gently press down any noodles that are not submerged in the water. Place the lid on your pot. Set the time to 4 minutes (high pressure).
When complete, quick release the pressure. Stir in the ricotta cheese. Add the mozzarella on top. Place the lid back on to trap the heat. Let sit until it is all melted. Serve immediately. Add a little extra mozzarella on top if desired. Enjoy!
