Instant Pot Roast Beef Manhattan

Tender roast beef smothered with scrumptious brown gravy and a side of mashed potatoes is one of my top ten all time favorite recipes . Are you ready to make the most delicious dinner ever? I remember loving this as a child and continue today. After perfecting it for the Instant Pot, I will probably never make it any other way.

With just a few ingredients, this is a simple and tasty meal your whole family is sure to enjoy! This recipe is the ultimate comfort food, great for any occasion.

Does anyone else love Roast Beef Manhattan? However, do you ever notice when you order it out at a restaurant, it’s just not the same? Trying several options with the gravy has paid off, we finally have the flavor of the gravy just right.

What is Roast Beef Manhattan?

A roast beef Manhattan is usually an open-face sandwich made with bread, tender beef placed inside and creamy mashed potatoes topped with gravy poured all over the entire meal.

The dish that is known as a “Manhattan” in many parts of the United States actually has nothing to do with New York City. It actually started in Indianapolis around the 1940s, in a small deli. However, it is said to be named by Naval Ordnance Plant Indianapolis workers who trained on the fabrication of the Norden Bombsight in Manhattan during World War II.

Ingredients needed to make Roast Beef Manhattan

beef roast

ranch seasoning

brown gravy mix

Au Jus seasoning mix

beef broth

cornstarch

How to make Roast Beef Manhattan

1. Turn the Instant pot on to sauté and brown the roast on all sides. I usually use strong tongs to do this. I pour just enough water to cover the bottom slightly so it doesn’t burn. You can cut the roast into sections if you prefer to maneuver it a bit easier.

2. Pour all the packets on top of the roast. You can smooth them out over the roast if you like.

4. Add the beef broth around the sides and then the middle.

6. Pressure cook for 90 minutes with a 15 minute NPR (natural pressure release).

7. Remove the roast to a plate.

9. Press the saute button. Make a slurry of the cornstarch and water to thicken the gravy. Add it to the pot and stir until it thickens.

10. With two forks or shredding claws, begin to shred the beef roast.

11. Serve the roast over potatoes or rice and drizzle the gravy over the top. Enjoy!
